Are there any good Raw food recipes that a person can make without a dehydrator?

I am a college freshman and i dont really have the money to throw aside and buy a dehydrator...some people suggest using an oven but that just actually cooks my food...i love veggie pizza idea but i have to dehydrate the base and the other recipe for it requires something you can only get in asian stores....if anyone has any suggestions for recipes it would be a great help....oh and i dont eat meat

One of my favorite recipes is the zucchini spaghetti!:

Cut the zucchini into long shreds buy using a Julienne peeler (you can get a cheap one from Walmart).

Pasta Sauce:

1 large fresh tomato

1 large red pepper

1-2 stalks of celery

1 clove garlic

(4-5 fresh basil leaves)

Blend all of the sauce ingredients in a blender or Food Processor.

Pour nicely over the zucchini “pasta”. Some fresh curly parsley sprinkled over the top adds a nice touch!

Also, you can get lots of raw food goodies like flax crackers and raw carob truffles online from wesites like www.naturalzing.com and www.rawfood.com =D!

There's a book by Jennifer Cornbleet that has raw foods recipes for one or two, and most of them don't require a dehydrator.

www.fromsadtoraw.com also has lots of raw food recipes, many of which don't seem to require a dehydrator.

And to order raw products, you can go to www.naturalzing.com.

First of all, you can get a good food dehydrator at most thrift shops for a couple of dollars. I have three of them, and just bought one, new in the box, at an auction tonight for $1.00!!!! If you are into raw foods, they are a "must have" tool! I use mine every day. Today, I made raw buckwheat/cocoa bars, and homemade chocolate cereal. I see them in the thrift stores all of the time. It really is worth the investment, even if you pay for a new one, which is only around 40 dollars at Walmart. My hobby in life is to NOT pay retail for anything, and it usually works out great. I also got a VITAMIX commercial blender tonight for 26 bucks! They sell used on ebay for about 250.00. Its the second one I have acquired for less than 30 dollars. A vitamix is another excellent appliance for ANY diet, but especially a raw diet.

I have been paying off a dehydrator over the past three months.

I just pay off money whenever I have any spare.

So maybe you could do this, spread your payments over several months, to make things easier on your hip pocket.

Dr Douglas N Graham has written a booked called “80, 10, 10”, I am pretty sure the recipes in there do not use a dehydrator.

Another book of his that I have is called “The New High Energy Diet Recipe Book”, and there are no dehydrator recipes in there at all, but over 100 recipes.

A tray of cut up fresh vegetables is always a party pleaser for my family:

3 large carrots

6 celery stalks

1 container grape tomatoes

2 large seedless cucumbers

1 bunch radishes

1 head each broccoli and cauliflower

2 bell peppers, any color

Wash the vegetables well with cool water. Peel and trim the carrots. Trim the ends off the celery and radishes.

Trim bite-size florets off the cauliflower and broccoli, rinsing again to remove any trapped dirt.

Cut the celery, carrots and peppers into strips, the cucumber into spears, and halve the radishes.

Arrange on a tray and serve with low-fat dip or ranch dressing.

Deviled eggs, celery and carrot sticks,.Peanut butter for the celery, carrot sticks with ranch dressing, broccoli and cauliflower to dip in ranch, olives, cheese cubes with a variety of crackers. Little smokies in bbq sauce, cocktail meatballs.Use toothpicks to serve them with. Just a few that my family likes. Merry Christmas.

My kids and family love this one:

buy wheat pita bread, sliced roast beef, swiss cheese, and philidelphia cream cheese (either garlic and herb or chive and onion) depending on your taste buds.

grab a pita and spread the flavored cream cheese on it.

then add a layer of roast beef and then swiss cheese.

now roll the pita inta a loaf. slice and use toothpicks to hold.

thats it real simple and real good!

You could go to the store and in the freezer section they sell Phyllo shells. They are great to fill with some chicken salad, or for a desert filled with mousse. Go to www.athens.com for some good ideas.

Looking for home made cat food recipes for a normal cat?

With all this pet food recall scary news I would like to start to feed my cats with a healthy home made diet. Does anyone have some good recipes which can be fed long term without running the risk of mineral/vitamin deficiencies or overdosing?

Yes! Do I ever!

And good for you for considering this. I wish you luck in getting your cats converted.

I've been researching this issue myself but haven't yet decided on the right course of action. I've been dithering between trying to feed whole prey or doing the grinding myself, or purchasing pre-ground meats from speciality pet stores online, which supplements to use, etc.

If you're interested in seeing the document I created with all my notes, please email me. I don't want to post it here because it's like 3 pages long! But it includes all the resources and tips I've been gathering, including the Yahoo groups on raw feeding that I belong to. So let me know if you want to see that.

In addition to the recipes in the links below, there are several other options - other recipes that you make yourself; you can buy pre-ground meat at some pet stores or online; there are supplements you can buy so you don't have to invest in all the individual ingredients; and the list goes on!

It will be hard to provide just the right nutrition for your cat with a homemade food. Only the wet foods have been recalled, any kibble you have is fine. As for wet food switch to fancy feast. that is the brand my vet reccomended to me.

here's a couple of places that have them

Does anyone have any good campfire food recipes?

Every year when we go camping we try new recipes and last year on Y! Answers we got quite a few good recipes, so why not try again? We're open to all sorts of ideas, even if they're complicated. We've made everything from Hobo dinners to Chinese food in a wok over the fire. Do any of you have any favorites that you would like to share?

ok this sounds really weird...

eat your halved oranges in the morning...Save the shells of the oranges... best are naval, or other thick skinned oranges... Make your favorite cornbread or brownie recipe...put the batter into the shells. Wrap the shells with foil and put onto the grill or coals, and turn every five to ten minutes. let them cook above the flames for a total of what your recipe calls for plus five.... you decide how good this is

Foil dinners are good.

Make a hamburger patty and lay it in heavy duty aluminum foil; put sliced potatoes, carrots, onion, on and around the meat. Fold up the edges of the foil to make sure it's sealed. It's also a good idea to double wrap it. Then put it in the fire for about 10 or 15 minutes (or till done). You have a complete meal and no plates to wash.

This is my favorite. We did this when i was in girlscouts. Take foil and put a hamburger patty in it. Mix potaoes, carrots, sweet peas, onions, celery (and anyother veggies you want) and 3/4 can of mushroom soup. Fold it up all tight. (may needing to double wrap) and sit in the hot coals. It takes awhile but boy is it good. I dont have any measurements but just eye it out. It's called Cowboy Dinner. Kids love it.

For dessert you could get foil and put a whoel banana in there with cocolate and marshmellows. Fold that all up and put that in the coals. Thats also great. Good luck!

Fry sausage, drian and set aside. Now fry a skillet of fried potatoes or hashbrowns, when done pour 6 or more beaten eggs into the fried taters. Put the sausage back. Slowly & gently fold the mix till the eggs are done. Put shredded cheese over the top till melted. Serve with skillet fried biscuits!

smores-- so tasty :)

get some chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows.

Toast the marshmallow over the fire. and put it between the chocolate and graham cracker.

last time we tried using bananas instead of marsh mellows. It tasted pretty good.Try roasting whatever you can find and have a roast buffet !!! That would be pretty cool ! It would be like fear factor!

moon pies grahm cracker marshmellow gramcracker marshmellow gramcracker

marshmellows, graham crackers, chocolate. You will want some-more

Where can I find some real southern comfort food recipes?

My mother in law makes the best southern cooking and I miss it so much! Where can I find recipes to make some authentic southern comfort food?

http://southernfood.about.com/ is a great site- you can find just about any recipe you want with a southern flair. Start with sweet tea, corn bread, and this way over the top macaroni and cheese, from a very southern "belle"

Over-the-Rainbow Macaroni and Cheese

Recipe created by Patti LaBelle

Patti LaBelle says that the sure sign of a good cook is if their macaroni and cheese will make you cry! According to Oprah, Patti's version just might bring tears to your eyes.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 pound elbow macaroni

8 tablespoons (1 stick) plus 1 tablespoon butter

1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded Muenster cheese

1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded mild Cheddar cheese

1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack

2 cups half-and-half

1 cup (8 ounces) Velveeta, cut into small cubes

2 large eggs, lightly beaten

1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt

1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter a deep 2 1/2-quart casserole.

Bring the large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the oil, then the elbow macaroni, and cook until the macaroni is just tender, about 7 minutes. Do not overcook. Drain well. Return to the cooking pot.

In a small saucepan, melt eight tablespoons of the butter. Stir into the macaroni. In a large bowl, mix the Muenster, mild and sharp Cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheeses. To the macaroni, add the half-and-half, 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheese, the cubed Velveeta, and the eggs. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to the buttered casserole. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese and dot with the remaining one tablespoon of butter.

Bake until it's bubbling around the edges, about 35 minutes. Serve hot.

When I first read the question, I thought you were talking about Southern Comfort whiskey, but i figured I can still give you my whiskey steak recipe. It's incredibly easy.

All you do is fry off a few pieces of chuck steak (or gravy beef) in a very hot pan, just to seal them. Then lay them flat in the bottom of a crock pot or large casserole dish. While the pan you fried them in is still extremely hot, deglaze it with a generous amount of whiskey, then pour this into the crock over the meat and simmer for seven or eight hours. When the steaks are falling apart, carefully extract them and plonk them back in an extremely hot pan for a fe seconds to give them a bit of a crust, and serve with something hearty like mashed potatoes or hot chips.

What are some easy Indian food recipes?

I like Indian food (on the spicy side), but I'm not familiar with the recipes or spices. Is there a recipe I can cook at home, or should I stick with restaurants?

Since you like spicy Indian food, you can try this recipe. It is extremely spicy!!! It is called Geera Pork. We Trindadians like our food spicy, so BE CAREFUL!!! HA HA HA!!! (In Trinidad, there is a strong influence of Indian cuisine.)

1 pound lean, boneless pork cut in 1 inch cubes

1 teaspoon of salt

half teaspoon of black pepper

2 to 3 tablespoons of minced green seasoning (or you can create your own marinade for the meat)

2 teaspoons of minced garlic

2 teaspoons of cilantro

2 teaspoons of pimento (the flesh and seeds also because the seeds of the pimento has the real flavour)

2 teaspoons of vegetable oil

1 to 2 teaspoon of curry powder

quarter cup of water

1 teaspoon of minced hot pepper (the hotter the better!!!)

1 to 2 teaspoons of geera (this is also called cumin, which are tiny seeds. It is also ground and is dark in colour with a distinct odour.)

METHOD OF PREPARTION

Season pork with salt, geen seasoning, black pepper, garlic, cilantro and pimento; allow to marinate four atleast four hours.

After meat has marinaded, heat oil in a pot; mix the curry powder with the water to form a paste. Add to hot oil CAREFULLY for about 3 minutes until thick.

Add pork and stir until coated with the curry powder.

Lower heat, cover and allow to simmer in its own juices for about 20-25 minutes or until almost cooked. It may be necessary to add about a half cup of water if the liquid has dried up within the pot to avoid burning.

Add remainder of ingredients and stir thoroughly. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until tender.

Can any one give me some good Mexican food recipes?

I love Mexican food but my fiancee is not as much a Mexican food eater. Is there any good Mexican food recipes that even my fiancee would like?

(m)

Chicken Enchilada Ingredients

20 Corn Tortillas

4 Pound Chicken

3 Cups Shredded Monterrey Jack Cheese

4 Ounces Sour Cream

1 Cup Buttermilk

3 Cups Chicken Broth (you will make this using the chicken in the first step.)

1 Tablespoon Chili Powder

1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1/2 teaspoon Salt

1 teaspoon Ground Cumin Powder

4 Tablespoons Corn Oil

5 Tablespoons Flour

2 Sliced Jalapeno Peppers

1 Chopped Onion

Chicken Enchilada Equipment

Chicken Enchilada Equipment

2 Large Sauce Pans

Frying Pan

Cheese Grater

Spatula, or Tongs

Spoon

Measuring Spoons

Measuring Cups

First Step: The Dreaded Bird

Ok, lets get started! If this is your first time boiling a chicken it looks scary, but don't worry it wont bite (usually.) Most of the gross stuff is already taken care of.

If your chicken is frozen like a brick just fill up your sink with water and drop it in and let it sit there till it acts more like a refrigerated one. If it came in a plastic wrapper just leave it on during this step. This could take a few hours. If it is not frozen then just ignore this comment.

Take the chicken out of the wrapper and put it in an extra large sauce pan. If you cook it in the plastic wrapper it will taste funny. Now cover the chicken with water. Put in 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. Put the lid on the sauce pan and let the chicken cook on a burner set on medium low for at least 2 hours. Once this is done see if it is tender. If it isn't then you will need to cook it for about 20 more minutes. Once it is done take the chicken out of the broth and save the broth for your enchilada sauce. If the enchilada sauce does not have chicken broth in it, it will be NO good. This is one of our secrets to great Mexican food. Now place the chicken on a cookie sheet to cool.

Second: De-boning Chicken

Once you have removed the broth from the chicken, and the chicken has cooled, take the skin off. Then take all the meat off of the bones. Just reach down and grab the meat and leave the bones. Now this is the important part: keep the meat and through the bones and cartilage away.

Now take the chicken meat and mix it with:

1/2 teaspoon Salt

1/2 teaspoon Ground Cumin

1 Teaspoon Chili powder

Third Step: Grating Cheese

Grate 3 Cups of Monterrey Jack Cheese.

Fourth Step: Frying Corn Tortillas

Now it is time to fry the tortillas. Just fill a skillet 1/4th inch full of corn oil. Then Place it on a medium high burner and let it heat up. Then take one of the tortillas and carefully place it in the skillet and count 5 real seconds, flip it over, count another 5 real seconds and then remove it from the skillet. You will want to blot the grease off. You will need to fry around 20 of these. This is so that you will have one or two extra.

(If you have never fried any thing before there are some safety rules to hot oil. One: Never leave it unattended. If you do, it could start your house on fire. Two: If you have children make sure it is out of their reach and the handle of the skillet is not hanging off were they could grab it. Three: Use the proper utensils to fry, this never includes your hands. I know My hand is in the picture, but I can tell you from experience hot oil hurts!) I am not trying to scare you, just trying to make this an enjoyable experience.

Fifth Step: Mixing Buttermilk Enchilada Sauce

Stir the following ingredients together in the sauce pan. Make sure this is done over a burner set on medium low:

4 Tablespoons Corn Oil

5 Tablespoons Flour

1 teaspoon Salt

1 teaspoon Ground Cumin Powder

1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1 Tablespoon Chili Powder

Once this is done stir in:

3 Cups of the chicken broth made from first step

Adding Buttermilk

Now is the time to add the 1 Cup Buttermilk. Stir it in well and continue to stir on medium low until the enchilada sauce has thickened to the consistence of thin gravy.

Seventh Step: Dipping Tortillas

Now don't worry we will take you through assembling the first one:

Dip one tortilla in the buttermilk enchilada sauce. Then lay it on a plate. (Assemble these on a different plate from the one you serve them on. This tip will keep the serving plate neat and attractive for a professional looking presentation.)

Eighth Step: Assembling Chicken Enchiladas

Now put 1/4th cup chicken mixture, 1/4th cup cheese, 1 Tablespoon onion and 1/4th cup of enchilada sauce on the dipped tortilla.

Add another dipped tortilla, and another layer of chicken/cheese/onion. Now top it off with a third tortilla.

Ninth Step: Topping Chicken Enchiladas

At this point you should have three tortillas and two layers of filling.

Top the enchilada off with a sprinkle of cheese, onion, chicken, and then 1/2 cup of buttermilk enchilada sauce. Then finish it off by putting a dollop of sour cream and a few slices of Jalapeño pepper.

Tenth Step: Sliding

This is the last step!! Just slide your chicken enchilada onto the serving plate.

My favorite is Chicken Enchlada Suizas, bascially chicken, corn tortillas, cheese, salsa verde and a sauce made of heavy cream. They are great. You can find a ton of recipes for mexican food at this website.

Taco salad

Chop 1 medium onion into 1/4" pieces. Coat the bottom of a large sauce pan with olive oil. On low heat cut onions until slightly crunchy. In same pan brown 1 1/1 lbs of hamburger. Add taco seasoning to taste. Pour in 1 can of ice tomatoes, 1 can of drained kidney beans, one small can of tomato sauce, and 1/2 jar of any Newman's salsa. Cook on low stirring often for about 15 minutes.

After cooked pour 1 cup on a fresh bed of lettuce for each person Top with a tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese and a tablespoon of sour cream. Bon appetite.

Google chimichanga. They are my one only favorite mexican food.

Well, i know one, its easy to make, and taste great... its called a poor boy enchilada,

items needed:

Corn tortilla's

enchilada sauce

grated cheese

(optional)

olives

onions

n other toppings or what not

So get a rectangular glass thingy and put some oil in a small pan to get it hot n ready. also put the enchilada sauce in a small pan to heat it up.

when they are hot start to dip the corn tortillas into the oil leave em there for 10 seconds, take em out the dip them into the enchilada sauce then start to line the glass pan bottom, when u have competed the bottom, take some of the enchilada sauce and pour it around the edges so they dont get hard, after that put a layer of cheese and other toppings

continue again until it reached the brim of the glass pan.

when done preheat the oven to 400 degrees

place the pan into oven and let sit until u see the cheese all melted. then take out, let cool n eat!

it's my fav dish!

No. Todos estan en mexico y no en los estado unidos.

Which food recipes websites are the best and why?

There are a few food recipes websites out there and I am not too sure which one I would like to join. Just would like to know if any of you have any experience in using/joining those websites and can tell me which ones are good and which ones I definitely should not join and why.... Thanks :):)

Teach you step by step:

http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/

don't find recipes sites that you don't know whether the taste is great or not. read carefully the ingredients whether they are available at your area or not. find the correct measurement such as ounce, cm, gram, tsp, tbsp or etc.

i always choose recipes which is been categorised as rating or high to low rating. these rates are evaluate by reviewers (make it before).

I like Recipezaar.com -- they include nutritional information and people rate recipes and provide great feedback. It is incredibly searchable and I can narrow recipes by foods I have available or dietary restrictions. I also like Simply Recipes. I enjoy reading Elise's blog and she incorporates some other very great recipe blogs (such as: vanilla garlic). I visit both of these websites nearly every day.

I like going to kraftfoods.com, bettycrocker.com, wegmans.com, and the food network.com, as they all have some pretty easy recipes, and they are made with a lot of ingredients that you probably already have, or are not hard to find and make, which I find helpful. I'm a "beginner" cook, so I find these sites easy to follow and have not made a bad meal so far!

I like cooks.com- a little redundant (they repeat the same recipe several times) but they give a lot of different recipes for each dish- some simple, some complicated and show the main ingredients before you click on the recipe (so you don't have to look at ones that aren't what you're looking for).

Allrecipes.com

1. Well organized.

2. Thousands of recipes.

3. Reader-rated

4. Free "recipe box".

5. E-mails that aren't spamish.

These are my favorites:

Where can I get pet food recipes for my shih tzu?

I am looking for homemade recipes for my shih tzu. I will only make her food because I lost a pet from the pet food recall, and I am just too scared to feed her commercial food. What type of fiber would I add to say roast beef and mash potatoes and carrots. Or ground meat with carrots and rice. Thank You in advance.

I’m so very sorry that you lost your pet due to the contaminated food. Such a sorrowful loss! Abundant condolences to you!!!!

I COMPLETELY understand your fear in feeding your shih tzu commercial food. I have always fed my dogs and cats Hills Science Diet. When I my career was in veterinarian medicine, we had a client that fed his a homemade recipe. He had MANY dogs since he trained for frisbee competition and he delighted the patrons at many major football & baseball events. If you want I will contact him for the recipe. His dogs and cats health were phenomenal! We ONLY saw them for spay/neuters and yearly exams including vaccinations. So you know that he was definitely feeding them correctly!

There are vitamins and minerals that you MUST add to the recipe! They CANNOT live healthy on plain people food alone. I’m going to give you a list of web sites for now. As I said, if you want “The Famous Frisbee Dog Owners” recipe you may email me.

Hill’s Science Diet has many Homemade Diets . . . I have FULL trust in them! The only ones which I have are for special needs. You could contact them at:
